@JWerner247 And … Fort Scott also used the old NBA Kansas City Kings court with their logo in the facility! Gotta love Juco world!

Old JUCO nemeses Brad Underwood and Chris Beard caught up during the #illini coach's hallway availability.
"We're just a bunch of JUCO guys who get to coach ball and we get to live out our dreams. This is what this thing is about just as much for coaches as it is for players."

@HD_DirtKing What do you think about just moving it to before the game

Rick Pitino say that St. John's will "refrain" from the postgame handshake going forward.
Not sure if this good or bad for the game. Trying to convince myself one way or another, but I am firmly on the fence here.
Someone give me a good argument on either side to sway me....
Rick Pitino@RealPitino
I certainly have great respect for the coaches and teams we play but after witnessing multiple problems with the postgame handshake line, we will take a page out of the NBA playbook and refrain.

@CoachDoty Congratulations … met his Dad several time when he was head coach and my good friend Mark Fox was his assistant at Nevada! Best of luck!

I’d like to announce that I’ve retained Terry Johnson as an assistant coach on our men’s basketball staff at Houston Christian University.
Coach Johnson has developed a good rapport around campus and comes highly recommended from our administration and other coaches around the country.
He comes from basketball lineage as the son of former Nevada, Stanford, LSU, and TCU head coach Trent Johnson. Most impressive, Terry has forged his own career path working his way through the coaching ranks having been an assistant at the NCAA D3, NCAA D2, and NCAA D1 levels.
Over the past week after spending many hours with Coach Johnson it was evident that he is hard working, humble, honest, and knowledgeable. I had to make him leave the office at 10:00 PM multiple nights last week. We will work on the work-life balance stuff!
I am pleased to welcome @CoachTJohnson_ as a continued member of the HCU men’s basketball coaching staff.

@CoachDoty Welcome to Houston! HCU is lucky to have you here. Looking forward to your arrival!

There are 362 NCAA Division I head men’s basketball coaching positions in the country. I don’t take for granted how fortunate I am to be offered the opportunity to lead one of these programs, specifically, Houston Christian University (HCU).
First, I want to thank the Lord for this opportunity. I want to thank HCU President Dr. Sloan, Director of Athletics Steve Moniaci, Deputy Athletic Director Stan Williamson, and James and Ann Bryant. All five of you have played a vital role in allowing my family the opportunity to move to Houston to join your prestigious institution. Thanks for your belief in me and our vision to reimagine and reinvigorate the men’s basketball program.
I would like to thank and honor Coach Ron Cottrell and his coaching staffs who spent the last 33 years leading the HCU basketball program. This includes long-time assistants Steven Key and Jud Kinne as well as many other assistants. Ron and his staff dominated the NAIA and Red River Conference days of the 90’s and early 2000’s. They fearlessly led the program back to the NCAA Division I level, through the probationary period, to the Great West Conference, and to the Southland Conference. It is a privilege to follow Coach Cottrell and build on his body of work.
I am grateful for the previous colleges and universities who afforded me the opportunity to lead their programs. Rock Valley College, Graceland University, and most recently and for the last six years, Emporia State University. I will be posting an in-depth message thanking some specific people who changed my life from Emporia State in the coming days. In the meantime, I want to express my gratitude for your support and love during our ESU tenure. The Emporia community is incredible. Alexys and I not only raised our four children in the community but we also watched your children grow, too. It was a special time in our family’s life.
Thanks to my wife and children, my parents, my assistants, and our former student-athletes. College athletics is all about people and creating value for each other. Thanks for partnering with me each day as we pressed forward to make degree progress, impact our community, and win games and championships.
The work continues with great excitement for the future at Houston Christian University. As George Strait famously sings, “Take me to Texas.”

Why do sports sometimes bring out the worst in parents?
There are many reasons.
The stress, adversity, challenges, and relationships of team sports are not always easy.
Here are 8 things parents can do to be an MVP Parent!
1: Remember Whose Experience It Is
This important. Always remember that it is your child's experience, not yours. You are not reliving your glory days. Be there to support your child, but know that it is their journey, their memories, and their experience.
2: Be Conscious of the Words You Use
Words matter. Don't critique your child's play. Don't question why they did things. They will learn to hate the sport. Instead, let them talk on their terms. Say, "I Love Watching You Play." That is enough!
3: Cheer for the Entire Team
Team sports are team sports. There are a bunch of other players who want to play and want a certain role as well. There are parents who feel the same. Take it all in. Support and cheer for the entire team. It will make your experience 100% better.
4: Don’t Ruin the Car Ride Home
This can ruin the experience of sports, especially for young kids. Many kids fear the car ride home. They fear their parent criticizing their play. It is not ok. Do not be this parent. Think about the impact of the words you use.
5: Always Remember the Purpose of Team Sports
Team sports are the ultimate lab setting for life. They teach skills that will last a lifetime. They teach kids how to sacrifice, commit, accept roles, be a team player, how to be a great teammate, how to handle adversity, and how to win and lose. They teach things that cannot be learned in other areas of life at this stage. This is the WHY. Know that kids learn, both good and bad, from team sports. But, these things will make them better adults if handled well.
6: Be a Positive Role Model
This should be your number #1 job as a parent. Be someone your son or daughter can be proud of. Do not be "that" parent in the stands. Do you not encourage "that" parent in the stands. Do not sit by "that" parent in the stands.
7: Work to Create Memories
Ultimately, a season is like writing a book with many unique chapters. There will be good times and bad. There will be adversity. Each season is a story. Try to help create great memories and experiences that can be added to this book.
8: Support Coaches and Officials
Finally, support coaches and officials. They are getting harder to find. It is a very hard job. And if you did either of them, you would know. If you cannot do it yourself or are not willing to do it yourself, do not be so quick to criticize others. It is that simple.
