Not just this, Wallenstein who was in many ways the Son of the (17th) Century, personally had Kepler's (and Seni's) horoscope and relied on it.
The Paracelcean Prophesy of the Lion of Midnight was embodied in the person of Gustavus Adolphus.
All must study.

@shamansaban @novusolus The simplicissimus is a great read. Also interesting is the role of Astrology in the war like how a comet prophecied it or Kepler finding out the outcome but refusing to publish it due to his faith. I wrote my first real article on this x.com/i/status/20331…

@DeGroyper28971 Worst cursing I ever saw was a video of a romanian peasant after dropping stuff on the ground. It usually really is a class marker

Your reminder that we do actually eat this every year in Sweden and it's sold in all larger grocery stores lol

The Anglo pertinacity is unmatched. This video shows how we conquered the world

@DiP11s @MemeMagician97 It's different though, the fumie was only small part of a system of rules and even sects of Bhuddism were outlawed by the government. You also had people wanting to privately switch to another temple while making sure their religious duties would still be covered denied.
English

@AlphartEnsis @MemeMagician97 This tension has been expressed in various ways, such as when St. Polycarp was killed by Rome for failing in his religious duties. Like a precursor to the "fumie", the Romans might offer a Christian to do the most trifling thing, like burn just a pinch of incense to the Emperor.

Its really interesting most westerners wouldnt recognize going to a shrine at new years or even having a christmas dinner as "religious"
Religion in the west seems to strongly imply some form of conscious adhering to doctrine otherwise its seen as a secular/cultural gathering.
The lines between secular rites and superstition are blurry because before the advent of philosophy they were always one in the same.

@DiP11s @MemeMagician97 I think it's more about the government structure people lived under than how many times a word is mentioned or what its root is. That's just my opinion though
English

@AlphartEnsis @MemeMagician97 Our root word for religion comes from Rome, and it is exactly how you describe: public observance of one's duties.
That is why the word "religion" is only mentioned a single time in the New Testament. This tension is palpable in our earliest sacred documents.

@fleur_inverse We are choking dignity to death with so many things and tourism is one of them. Hordes of people waddling around any place remotely memorable...

This will be out today or tomorrow at the latest. I'll probably make a thread with screenshots of the longer text.

Would it be interesting if I make a post about the actual history of Christianity being banned in Japan? I see insane partisan takes on an issue which I personally believe was more political than religious in the first place
