huffpost.com/entry/released… “At least 15 cases of sexual assaults, including rape. Shot with rubber bullets at close range. Tens of people’s bones broken,” organizers of the Global SumudFlotilla posted on the Telegram social media app. “While the world’s eye is trained on the suffering of our participants, we cannot emphasize enough that this is a mere glimpse of the brutality Israel imposes daily on Palestinian hostages.”

Lt Col Buka Suka Dimka really sounds like a name of a person that is destined to plot a coup d'etat. The name is too hard to be conservative.

This kind of emotional conclusion is exactly one of the reasons why even well-intentioned governments fail woefully at making lasting impact in Northern Nigeria. While Bello Galadanchi is a notable activist and content creator adept at generating public traction, his kind gesture of school renovation does not demonstrate competence in education reform at scale. The aesthetic of a school is not a sufficient condition for quality education. If you are objective enough, you should know that classroom renovation, despite its visual appeal, is not the best way to improve the quality of learning. I can point to a number of schools built or renovated to similar standards by governments at different tiers in Nigeria, but has that ever translated into a real turnaround in the education sector? Never. Because one dilapidated school proves nothing about systemic failure any more than one renovated school proves systemic success. UBEC would only perform better if several credentials beyond public visibility are considered in choosing who governs it. There are several Nigeria-based, some internationally educated, education development practitioners with deeper field experience, macro-level understanding, informed passion, non-partisanship, and the integrity that could genuinely turn around basic education in Nigeria. Even @BelloGaladanchi might be able to attest to that.
