German surgeon Heinrich Braun (1862-1934) was the first to use Novocaine as a local anesthetic, in 1905. He also was the first to recommend adding adrenaline as a vasoconstrictor to local anesthetics.

Anyone can be taught the skills to operate. What can't be taught is the desire to be in the OR, the confidence required to cut into a living human, and the humility to respect the things you cannot fix. Anyone can operate, but not all can become a surgeon.

The amount of time I spend on documentation vs. patient care is a ratio that shouldn’t exist. It’s totally flipped the wrong way. It’s heartbreaking to see how much more I could do with that time (all things that would improve patient care).
