When I lived in LA, Vin Scully was on his last years. I was a transplant who loved the Astros, but sitting in traffic - which is half of your life in LA - Vin and the Dodgers transported me to a happy place. It made life better, more tolerable. We should all do this more often, me thinks.

@Alvincowan I don’t believe the Verticals hype. Chinese money is pouring in but that doesn’t mean people are actually watching it here. It’ll be gone in two yrs. My two cents.

This is what I’ve been yelling at the internet about. Talent is heading to verticals as a substitute for TV. Verticals don’t want or need union talent because they aren’t dependent on that quality and have begun to grow their own talent outside the union gates. It’s the same thing that happened to commercials around 2015. Safe to say SAG never recovered from that shift. Not quite sure what purpose the unions will serve in the future aside from spending $40 million on a fancy new building while not providing healthcare to most members.

Listen, I love LA. Lived there for almost 20 years before Covid and a baby got me out. But this argument that "LA is the epicenter" of film no longer really holds. Sure, the corporate offices and half empty lots are there. And while some of the best talent in the world is still there, a lot is not. A lot is leaving. Or has left. In my opinion, that's largely due to the mismanagement of the business by local and state government officials. But that's a point for another time. My point today is - The thing about AI, creator economy, and the rest is - you can find a tribe anywhere. You can create anywhere. There's a large concentration of creatives in LA, sure, but same can be said on a per capita basis in Austin, Nashville, Atlanta, New York, Chicago, etc. I'm making a film in Bend, one in the Bahamas, and one in Seattle in the next year. Some with people I met in LA - none of whom still live there - but some with people I've met in different walks of life. If you like living in LA, stay. But don't stay because you think it's the best or only place to be. It's not.
