Tomorrow is my last day at The Banner-Press. I am going to work for the city of Brenham, which is a truly a dream job for me. I am a little sad to be leaving journalism, and this move took a lot of prayer and reflection. Thank you for your stories, Brenham.

My first city council meeting not sitting at the media table. It’s weird, but lovely. Now, I get to help make the agenda packets, get documents ready for the mayor to sign and so much more. My new job is so cool.

Adding my own pic because it sat on my desk for two years and I could never express how much these guys meant to me that summer. Especially Jacob, who was so kind and patient with me, while being encouraging and supportive. Congrats my friend!

@reporterjulie I had one editor here who would always say "this would be an award-winning piece!" on things that had no ties to Brenham. At all. And yet, we wasted our time chasing these things our manager thought were newsworthy that our readers did not like.

I went to the junior high to take photos today. Two of the kids were singing The Duck Song. I’m glad some things never change 🍇

My MVP of the day was not my morning coffee, but my pre-school board meeting Cheetos I scarfed down the the high school parking lot.

There’s one person in Brenham who loves to send me anonymous letters about how my opinions are wrong, often quoting the Bible, and even at one point sent me a Bible with a verse highlighted. This particular complaint about my sarcastic remarks about Thanksgiving takes the cake.

Me: *emails person one* Person one: Actually, you need to talk to person two. Person two: Ok, you should talk to person three. Person three: I’m going to have to refer you to a person one. They should be able to help you. I’m over this week y’all.

“Using only food, where did you grow up?”

I went to the senior center today to grab some photos and a woman stopped me and asked, “Are you Alyssa Faykus?” And when I told her yes it was like she met a celebrity 😭 “I can’t believe I finally get to meet you!” This community is so special ♥️

Today is George’s last day at the Banner-Press. He is going on to bigger and better things by being donated to the Brenham Heritage Museum for their post office display. The museum also needs donations from Brenham residents! (1/2)

One thing I've learned as an editor is people really don't understand what the difference is between a proper and improper noun.
