APF’s United Nations Fellows attended sessions at the Commission on the Status of Women 70 (CSW70), organized by UN Women, where global leaders, advocates, and policymakers came together to discuss advancing gender equality. Throughout the week, fellows joined conversations on topics ranging from health and law to artificial intelligence and technology, exploring how these areas intersect with women’s rights and empowerment. Our 2025 Rising Stars award celebrates Pakistani-American women excelling in the field of public health and making an impact in unique ways. Our forth Rising Star in this week's spotlight is Mareyba Fawad! Mareyba Fawad, MPH is an early-career public health professional whose work spans federal consulting, health policy, and global health leadership. She is a Lead Federal Health Policy Consultant at Acumen LLC in San Francisco, supporting multiple offices within the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and serves as Chair of Acumen’s 500-member DEI Workgroup. Previously, she served as Senior Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton in Washington, DC, where she led policy recommendations for more than eight CMS divisions and contributed to CMS’ first DEI-focused national survey. Her broader portfolio includes consulting for UN Women, public health law work at the CDC, and co-authoring research published in Nature Human Behavior, as well as founding the Minority Health Sciences Conference, now in its 5th year. Internationally, she served as Head Delegate to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, where she delivered an oral statement and organized official UN high-level events on gender equity and public health. She also served as Senior Advisor and a featured speaker for the Georgetown University Pakistan Public Policy Conference. Nationally, she has held leadership roles across the American Public Health Association’s state affiliates, including Vice President of the Southern California Public Health Association and the youngest Health Policy Chair and Conference Director in the Oklahoma Public Health Association’s history, where she led the state’s largest public health convening. Mareyba Fawad holds an MPH in Health Policy and Management from Columbia University in the City of New York and dual bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and History of Science from the University of Oklahoma.
