Según el catedrático de Química Inorgánica de la UV y responsable de la colaboración española en el estudio e investigador, Eugenio Coronado, "este logro desafía los paradigmas clásicos de la química y abre nuevas posibilidades para el diseño de materiales de escala nanométrica con propiedades únicas, lo que podría tener aplicaciones en el desarrollo de nuevos dispositivos electrónicos, magnéticos o incluso en catalizadores para procesos industriales".
Coronado, también director del Instituto de Ciencia Molecular (ICMol) de la institución académica, ha resaltado que "se trata de un hallazgo fascinante que desafía algunos de los principios más clásicos de la química de coordinación y la reactividad de los metales de transición".

Very excited to share our recent progress on metallofullerene-based single-molecule magnet, in which a covalent Dy-Dy bond is created inside a carbon cage to induce direct 4f-4f coupling in order to effectively quench quantum tunneling of magnetization.

Thrilled to share our recent work published in @J_A_C_S We manage to synthesize heteronuclear dimetallofullerenes with single-electron metal-metal bonds, in which the bonding interaction and hyperfine coupling can be tailored when the La-Ti bimetal is confined in different cages.

Check our latest work on an endohedral metallofullerene-based single-molecule magnet showing a high blocking temperature of 45 K even in the presence of a weak crystal field, which is achieved by a low coordination environment that induces weak spin-phonon coupling.
