@BrandSanderson @torbooks Hyped for so many narrative threads getting (some) closure, and especially for Shallan's journey into the Spiritual Realm. (Wind and Truth Hype!)

In @undarkmag, I wrote about how polygenic scores are changing consumer genetic testing, and why experts see it as both promising and worrisome: "From a Fledgling Genetic Science, A Murky Market for Prediction" undark.org/2023/10/27/con…

The consequences of abortion bans = physicians are leaving the state, and hospitals can't recruit any to take their place. Which means no care for pregnant period, period.

@ASKusmer It seems so cliché, but nearly all the experts I interviewed pointed to some version of that answer. Especially compared to formula, there's no economic incentive. Definitely disheartening! Thank you again for reading and sharing the (sad, infuriating) news.

@ASKusmer Thank you, Anna! When I first got mastitis and searched the term in PubMed, so many papers were on livestock... One of my sources even joked that we know more about lactation in camels! Which I think is an illustration of the answer to your question: There's no money in it. 😑

I had a kid last year! And I started breastfeeding. When I got a lump and symptoms of mastitis four months later, I did what I thought was right: keep the breast empty, and massage the "clogged" milk out. Then I found out I was doing everything wrong. undark.org/2023/03/13/new…

@elandhuis @Sara_Talpos Thank you, Esther! I'm so sorry you also had mastitis - it really makes us desperate for a solution, doesn't it? Which just compounds the situation when there isn't a good evidence base! Recurrent issues sound so awful, too. I feel lucky my mastitis resolved quickly. 🤞

@AmandaGrennell @Sara_Talpos Very intriguing (and troubling🤔)! I had mastitis & numerous clogged ducts w/ each kid (2nd weaned early), spent MANY hours on lactation support calls & doing massage (in shower & HOA spa soaks). Congrats on your baby & kudos for researching this in the midst! Mine are now 17+15

New guidelines on managing mastitis had come out just after my son was born. And they seemed very different from the conventional wisdom. So, what's the science underlying the change? undark.org/2023/03/13/new…

For the past 6+ months, we here at @KSJatMIT and @undarkmag have been working on a project that explores science's long, often-troubled relationship with race. Today, "Long Division: The Persistence of Race Science" finally sees the light of day. race.undark.org

For the last month I've been reporting on a group of people who travel across America blocking wind and solar projects. This group has passed clean energy opposition laws in states across the country. Here's the story of one man who has been doing this for 10+ years. 🧵
