Many of these arguments get framed as “reach vs. credibility,” but the deeper issue is that many Dems want credibility to be assigned through institutions they recognize and control So much discomfort with the fact that public influence is not distributed by merit alone

On Hasan Piker: He's not on the ballot! And no one is arguing candidates should *be like him* -- but rather, I'm arguing that's it's good politics to reach his audience. If you disagree, tell me your alternative plan for reaching anti-establishment young men.

Every day, we’re pursuing small changes that make a big difference: like creating a map of licensed childcare providers in New York City. Explore the map at nyc.gov/childcare — you can filter by distance, cost, facility type, and more.

Cannot emphasize enough what percentage of messages in neighborhood mom chats are “does anyone have a spreadsheet of all the childcare places around here” - this is a small thing that’s a big service.

I agree with the analysis here and will also just add: I'm having a specifically intense reaction to this because the discourse is downstream of the Dem establishment's total refusal to grapple with Dem complicity in Gaza and the role it continues to play in alienating voters

A full breakdown of my thoughts on the bigger tent discourse, The Groups, litmus tests, "the party," Hasan Piker & more. 1) The problem is, per usual, with the candidates.

@neeratanden Having him on the trail is a choice the campaign made and they’ll deal with the ramifications of that, if any— but for establishment voices to lean in and make him a sticking point is further alienating (and proves the anti-establishment point.)

@neeratanden As I’ve said - I don’t think his is the only/best option. Going on his show doesn’t win elections just like going on Rogan doesn’t win elections (just like having the best policies doesn’t win elections!) But we shouldn’t turn down any chance to connect w voters.

I don’t think Hasan is the top or only option, obvs (& for many, he’s is not an option at all — I thought it was funny that press asked ppl if they’d go on, bc lol you have to be invited first!) — but to reach anti-establishment voters, we may have to be in uncomfortable places.

If you’re against other people’s litmus tests while also issuing your own— whether through questionnaires or lists of exact words not to use — then you don’t actually want a coalition. You want control.

Two years ago, we turned the page to a new generation of leadership in Missouri. In just one term, we’ve taken on Trump’s unconstitutional gerrymander, fought to protect reproductive freedom, invested in our public schools, and stood up for our immigrant neighbors.

or the swing states that determine the presidency, Hasan Piker's statements are offensive and problematic to the voters who determine outcomes. And if we, as a party, own them, that's a problem. No different than the GOP and Nick Fuentes.

I'm a fan of Amanda's and I agree w/parts of this & would love to do a Substack live with her to have a dialogue. But it's one thing to go on a show: I've always advocated for Democrats going everywhere with their message. But when you invite someone to campaign w/you, that's
