Highlights from the 2025 graduation and 2026 opening of the Living School of the Amazon (EVA). On March 9, in the community of Unión Base (Puyo), Indigenous youth leaders, elders, and authorities came together in a shared commitment to defend the Amazon.

The ASHA team is gathering in Puyo, Ecuador, for our annual strategic planning process. Over the past two days, we’ve reflected on our 2025 impact, shared key lessons, analyzed threats and opportunities and clarified on our gals for 2026. 💚

5️⃣ The model strengthens food sovereignty, household resilience, and sustainable community livelihoods while advancing forest conservation.

4️⃣ This project represents the first phase of a long-term strategy for Indigenous-led territorial regeneration in Ecuador, with strong potential to scale across additional Shuar communities.

Since December 2025, Shuar communities in Ecuador, within the territory of the Cuchaentza Association, have been implementing a food sovereignty system that revitalizes ancestral agroforestry practices such as the aja shuar. 🧵

6️⃣ With more than 5,000 Indigenous representatives in Belém, COP30 reaffirmed a profound truth: a just transition begins with the peoples who have protected their territories for millennia. 🌳

5️⃣ Our Alliance advanced proposals such as the #LifeZones campaign, calling for fossil-fuel-free territories essential for climate stability, fully aligned with the Declaration for an Amazon Free of Extraction presented by Colombia. 🌳
