Talk about Chutzpah. @JSerravallo’s 1st ed of her “Reading Strategies Book” was an awful compendium of 300 “strategies” for reading teachers. It cost $45. “Just kidding!” says Serravallo now. “Here’s my brand new 300 strategies. These are what I really meant to say.” Cost: $46

So many children in recovery from Reading Recovery

@ragobro1940 @ehanford Reading to a child is wonderful but it does not teach a child (or an adult) how to read. Approximately 30% of students can learn to read with poor instruction or even no instruction. Approximately 70% need explicit, systematic instruction to learn to read well.

@ehanford '...my wife read to our kids every night, the eldest was reading at age 3, the younger at age 4. It's as much a "home" problem as any.

How did students who were in Reading Recovery end up doing in fourth grade compared to students who just missed the low test scores needed to qualify for the intervention? 1/4
