New York City officials have confirmed that federal paperwork is now being filed in a terrorism case against two men from Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The charges come after two improvised explosive devices were ignited and deployed during protests outside of the home of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Saturday. Federal investigators have been interviewing family members of Emir Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi as part of their investigation, as well as looking at their online communications and travel history. Below is information about their families and travel history according to officials: Emir Balat’s parents were born in Turkey and were naturalized as US citizens almost ten years ago. Balat is a US citizen and was living with his family in a large two-story home in Pennsylvania. A woman at the residence confirmed to @CBSPhiladelphia that Balat lived at the house. He most recently traveled back to the US from Turkey in January of this year. He had traveled to Turkey for several months in 2025. Ibrahim Kayumi’s parents are originally from Afghanistan. They became naturalized US citizens more than 15 years ago. It is unclear if Kayumi was living with them at the time of the incident Saturday.
