Most of the ones I know start at $18 an hour, 10-12 hr days, 6 days a week, many have housing thrown in and some form of benefits. When their ssn comes back fraudulent, they go get another one and the cycle continues.

You can't get reliable help because even illegals can work on bigger farms and get benefits, time off, healthcare, housing, etc. I work around tons of documented and undocumented hispanics and they all make 50+ to start.

My family is ending our Idaho Pasture Pig breeding, piglet sale, and meat operation. Couple reasons: 1, Can't get reliable help which keeps us tied to the property at all times and we don't live near family members. The daily rate for a farm hand is outside of our family budget. 2, We have kids that are now of the age that need to go see and do and have memorable experiences. My wife and I always have to split up so someone can stay home and take care of animals. Maybe when this last set of children, which we have many, are older, my wife and I can start it back up. Filling our freezer with just our labor has been nice, but the modern style of living is not supportive of homesteader families unless they can build an additional revenue stream with online content and ad revenue. The cost to pay a farm hand for 5-6 days, I could just buy meat from someone else.
