As someone who has been on working group & branch OCs, the most important thing is folks having the capacity to keep the lights on and dedication to steward existing and new projects & campaigns. Support comrades who've shown up and done the work & are here for the Long Haul.
DSA Emerge@DSAEmerge

We're endorsing the Long Haul Slate for NYC-DSA Anti-War Working Group OC! These comrades are leaders in AWWG who are organizing to fight imperialism in our backyards, raise the consciousness of the masses, and cohere a powerful anti-war coalition. bit.ly/longhaulAWWG

@CTprogressive_ AES can't win in a Trump midterm in Michigan against Mike Rogers is a terrible argument They are already going "Oh, what about 6 years later? Will AES win that?"

Since Mallory McMorrow can no longer hide that Abdul El Sayed’s policies are more popular than her’s, and that he is more popular than her, her only path to victory is to convince enough primary voters who like him that he can’t win the general

@morematerial Maybe your take away should be to have some humility & more respect for the multitendency organization. DSA only works by those willing to show and do the work, our self-organization around a diversity of tactics is the backbone of what makes us special and the DSA difference.🌹

My take on long haul winning is that apparently political minorities are not automatically disenfranchised by one member one vote, who knew?

@GerardDalbon And the reason there should be truly representative, proportional representation is we are not a single tendency org like SAlt or PSL, we are by design a big tent, and as such all poles of that tent should be represented in the organization's structures and leadership bodies.

Groundwork believes basic democratic norms like political representation is not a shared principle or priority. Fortunately most believe in DSA as a big tent where we work together across factional lines with leadership representing us all. The current NYC-DSA structure doesn’t.
Joe@joeywhitc

@trash_panda97 @GerardDalbon @KraushTakes i'm sorry, no matter how much stress you put on it proportional elections for steering are not a necessity or a shared priority or commanded by our bylaws and principles. you want to figure it out bc you can not win a majority. i only care in that the constant hyperbole is toxic

@trash_panda97 @morematerial Is 15k really that many? And how many positions? I think there’s a lot of room to grow before this really becomes an issue. Plus don’t we want to scale up our direct participation in the org? Relational whipping at a larger scale would have good side effects on organizing imo

Yes I think all leadership positions should be elected by general membership or appointed by people elected by general membership. Planning on elaborating in long-form :)
welcome to our trash revolution@trash_panda97

@morematerial are you suggesting that everyone should have to whip 1k votes for each of our many WGs in the largest chapter in the org in order to simply get a majority on any OC? this seems good to you? to me it seems like a recipe for election fatigue and basically nonstop whipping

i’m thrilled Long Haul won but that we busted our asses to eke out a razor thin majority does not vindicate anything about this process we had to convince people to vote who didn’t know about AWWG or why they were even getting a ballot. super silly way to do things

Ultras consider having to argue their politics to general membership rather than hand-selecting their own electorate and all eligible candidates wrecking even when they win. It’s almost like this isn’t about who’s actually running the WG it’s about maintaining a fiefdom.
Burner@Burner1634443

@morematerial @trash_panda97 This is such a childish unwillingness to engage with the reality that this has been disruptive factional wrecking and now that its been defeated you dont get to pretend like the process behind it was in any way justified.

@AmicusParvus @pkgandakin @FalseConsc @morematerial All for proportional representation, I’m in a chapter that lacks it and goes the other direction. All of our steering races were 1-2 vote margins for the most part and I think 6-1 MUG n friends. I hope yall figure this out but it ain’t gonna be on twitter dot com

@AmicusParvus Mayhaps more people show up to AWWG meetings since over 2k people voted in the elections. Seems like a good springboard for list work and getting them more involved!

@FalseConsc @AmicusParvus @pkgandakin @morematerial I could get a bunch of people to show up to two meetings, meet the voting requirement, and still whip. Lotta holes in different processes. I would just argue that point instead of the post office lmao

@sammyclaws12 The problem is nobody was prepared for this, the procedural mishandling was very stark, especially changing the rules, looked worse in the face of all the conflict initiated by Trump that we were damn near paralyzed in responding to for almost 3 weeks. Glad its over.

@sammyclaws12 I happy for the result, and got like 50 1st rank commitments by myself, but I wish I didn't have to do that given if SC just let the outgoing OC redo the elections that would have made those 3 folks who wanted to run eligible, you still get a multi-tendency, and Danny gets a seat!
