The EU institutions & member states should now focus their efforts on supporting a robust common framework of digital regulation, by ensuring the effective implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the DSA, the AI Act and the forthcoming DFA.

Banning teenagers from accessing social media is not the answer. It is the responsibility of tech companies to overhaul the built-in addictive & manipulative design of leading social media platforms and AI chatbots to respect children’s rights and safety.

The inaugural Global Dialogue on AI is underway in Geneva as children are adopting AI technologies more than three times faster than adults, yet many of these systems were never designed with their rights and wellbeing in mind. Governments must protect children’s rights.

Any revision of EU digital law must strengthen – not dilute – the protections people rely on. That includes effective enforcement of #GDPR in line with international human rights standards. We’re not done with this fight.

What next? The #DataOmnibus file now goes to the incoming Irish Presidency. We’ll be watching closely and will keep saying it plainly: competitiveness and human rights are not opposites.
