Please get over it. It's done. Over with. PM apologised. Mandelson was sacked after a few months. We have wars to deal with. Cost of living crisis. Why don't you journalists take a responsible stance & focus on what matters? Not this storm in a teacup exaggerated by Tories.

Peter Mandelson’s appointment was a political one and FCDO knew that Keir Starmer/ Morgan McSweeney wanted it to happen even though the due diligence process had raised red flags. Olly Robbins’ response to this question gives, I think, an insight into why he overruled the security vetting decision: “The PM took advice and took a view himself and we then acted on that view”. What it doesn’t explain is why he didn’t flag security concerns over Britain’s top diplomatic appointee with No 10 - or if he told officials why they didn’t share with the political side of operation.

Bravo Keir for opening the strait and cleaning up Trumps mess. Who needs a navy when we have a leader of substance and this kind of soft power on the international stage?

It’s good news that the Strait of Hormuz has now reopened. This must be a long lasting and workable solution, without tolls or restrictions on routes. Today we announced our joint plan with France and other international partners to protect freedom of navigation. We need to see a return to peace and stability, and a permanent ceasefire.

I do not accept the claim that Keir Starmer is a liar. He is not. I have known him to be serious, measured, and guided by a strong sense of public duty.
We must challenge one another robustly on policy, but do it in a way that strengthens public confidence not erode it

I hope the media is beginning to get it. The British system is dysfunctional. The bureaucrats are in charge and withhold information all the time. I have no sympathy for Starmer - he is an inveterate liar and he and his mates Blair and Brown created the unaccountable albatross we have today.

Getting Erasmus+ back is a practical step that opens doors for young people.
The muppets in Reform? They’d scrap it to pick a fight with Brussels for the sake of it.
