I have walked through Nairobi’s CBD, and there is a heavy, silent grief in the air. People are still struggling to come to terms with the passing of Raila Odinga. The atmosphere feels like that of an orphan abandoned in the wilderness lost, hungry, and heartbroken.

Raila's final send-off in Bondo was an anti-climax. It was taken over by opportunistic leeches. We haven't seen Raila's long-time friends and his fellow second liberation heroes. I guess Gitobu Imanyara had a lot to say about Raila than Joho. Not even SK Macharia spoke? Even Raila's running mate and fellow 2nd liberation hero Martha Karua? We need a proper memorial to honour Raila properly. Raila always honoured and eulogized his fellow liberation heroes and even independence heroes. We reduced Raila's legacy to one year of blood-based government.

When everyone buried Raila Odinga and walked away the cameras turned off, the chants faded, and the crowd dispersed, one man stayed behind. The son of Jomo remained to console a grieving family. He didn’t come as a president or a rival, but as a fellow Kenyan, paying respect to a fallen giant. THE LAKE WILL REMEMBER YOU UHURU!
