Investigators have not given up their search to find the remains of a murdered Cal Poly student, Kristin Smart. Shannon O’Connor, also known as “Party Mom,” is on trial for allegedly organizing secret and disturbing alcohol-fueled parties for Los Gatos High School freshmen. A girl who dated O'Connor's son testified, "There was no escape. It was harder to escape from her than her son. She knew my every move. When I started to move on, I was shamed for it." The mother wanted her son’s group of friends to think of O’Connor as one of the “popular girls,” witnesses testified. A mother who is accused of killing her young daughter while performing a religious exorcism inside a San Jose church is seeking to have her case thrown out under California’s Racial Justice Act (RJA). Claudia Hernandez’s case has slowly moved through the court system since her 3-year-old daughter, Arely Naomi Proctor, was killed on a church’s alter in 2021. Arely’s mother, uncle, and grandfather told police detectives that the little girl was “possessed” and they attempted to cast out an evil “demon." More than four years after Arely’s death, the trio’s defense attorneys filed a joint RJA motion accusing police and prosecutors of holding systemic bias or animus toward the defendants because of their religious faith, ethnic identity, and national origin. The homeowner testified, “It’s a valuable property. We have two beautiful bathrooms. The boys peed everywhere around the yard … really acting like a bunch of hooligans." The beach house was "trashed" during the wild birthday party and sustained $9,000 in damages, he said.
