@hjluks Your words are always so spot on! Seeing you awesome training keeps prodding me to get moving too (although just walking and therabands at the moment…the TOS hit me hard!) 🙂
Muscle regeneration is enhanced by hot (but not cold) water immersion 🌡️
This new study investigated the effects of three different thermal treatments…
❄️ Cold water immersion (CWI 15 min at 12°C)
➖ Thermoneutral (TWI, 30 min at 32°C)
🌡️ Hot water immersion (HWI, 60 min at 42°C)
…daily for 10-days after a significant muscle damage protocol 💥
Here is what they found ⬇️
Hot water immersion led to significant reductions in …
💥 Muscle pain (vs TWI)
🩸 Creatine kinase & myoglobin (vs TWI & CWI)
Cold water immersion did not improve perceived muscle pain or reduce circulating markers of muscle damage 🧊❌
Hot water immersion also led to greater expression of heat shock proteins 🧬
…which were blunted in CWI‼️
📈 Nuclear factor-κB expression (an indicator of muscle wasting) significantly increased in all conditions except HWI
🧬 Plus interleukin-10 (a promoter of muscle repair) was up regulated in HWI only
❌ None of the water immersions differed in recovery of force-generating capacity
Contrary to commonly held beliefs, hot water immersion/exposure appears more beneficial than cold water immersion/exposure in improving muscle regeneration after a muscle injury 🌡️✅
Heat appears to have significant benefits for both performance and recovery 🥵
My annual tour of USA Hotel Gym Rules. In this episode, you shall not drink (sorry if you’re dehydrated), and you must only take the advice of male physicians. #ACSM25.
It’s planned that I will have further neurosurgery early next week to help the brilliant team looking after me try and sort out the nature of the changes in my brain detected on various recent scans.
All my fingers & toes will stay crossed for the next week or so! Thanks everyone for your kindness and support. The last few weeks have been tough.
(I half wonder if Garry & I will have to update my memoir, Brainstorm!! 🤭)

The Irish were among the first slaves in the Americas—sold, starved, and worked to death.
Their suffering was silenced, their story erased.
But this dark chapter shaped nations in ways few realize.
Here’s the forgotten truth about Ireland’s tragic history of slavery:
