Was listening to a CD the other day and was trying to remember when I’d last played it. 2015? I’ve got so many albums, and so little time... So here’s what I’m going to do: an album a day until I’ve played them all. Every single one. Discover what they are at: @AnAlbumADay1

#2189: In Times Of Dragons (2026) Which means now. A double-album concept played out against the present American political quagmire, presents some of Tori’s strongest material. This is a large canvas and this was a first spin, but already St Teresa, Veins and Blue Lotus sparkle.

#2188: Ship Of Memories (1976/2017) Akkerman exits and a new album is cobbled together from previous recordings. And it’s not too bad, with opener P’s March being the pick, despite its awful title. Glider definitely flies and Spoke The Lord Creator is worthwhile too. Boxset CD 7.

#2187: Fragile (UHQCD) (1971/2018) An absolutely sparkling edition of this classic, with astounding detail picked out by Memory-Tech’s groundbreaking process. Roundabout has never sounded this pure, its instrumentation so distinct. One day every CD will be manufactured this way.

#2186: (No Pussyfooting) (1973) Imagine buying this in ‘73, getting it home and listening to it. What did listeners even think of this blissy excursion into a new territory? Two pieces over two sides, this is an initial deep dive into ambient, creating a whole genre. Masterpiece.

Foxtrot was the first Genesis album I bought. It's still my favourite album of theirs today. Where do other fans rank it?

What's the longest gap you've had between seeing the same band twice? This question was sent to me by @surfingexec It's a great question.

#2185: Focus 9/New Skin (2006/2017) First spin for what is essentially a double album with a strong retro feel to it: this sounds like a classic Focus album, of all things. It all works well, though doubts linger concerning the European Rap(sody) and the litany of old songtitles?

#2184: Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus (1970) First heard at Rob’s house, must be 50 years ago, when it wowed me totally, though I didn’t buy it until I was a student. By then, I’d cooled on it, but going back to it years later—what a stunner. Forever Changes in a parallel world?

#2183: Piano Concerto No.3 (2010) So the idea is this: take Brahms’s Violin Concerto and adapt it to piano! Then again, Bach and Beethoven did it for their own violin concertos. The problem lies in the cadenzas, and what does the left hand do? Does it work? Oh yes. Spectacularly.

#1895: Piano Concerto No.2 (1960/1987) Knocked sideways by No.1, I had to hear how this compared. It’s a slightly different beast (four movements) but the verve and lyricism…The Chicago is big and bold and Richter is beyond expressive. Sadly there would never be a No.3. Except…

#2182: Mother Focus (1975) Saving their best ideas for solo projects, there’s still some decent input here, along with some lounge music and some American funk-influenced stuff… The title track, Bennie Helder and Someone’s Crying are recognisably Focus, along with No Hang Ups.
