Yesterday visited #Hathersage to attend the #History event at #StMichaels Church. My dad, in the 40s & 50s, attended the church, and was a choir boy, bell ringer and manually wound up the clock every day. Good to meet @messylucy. Thanks for the photos @juliangbell

#OTD 1936. Ellen Wilkinson leads the Jarrow Marchers to Westminster. The 200 men finish the 300 mile journey from the North East by asking for a steelworks to be built to combat 70% unemployment. Wilkinson says the PM refused to see them because “he was too busy”.

Oh heck, big sister is getting territorial now. Little brother has been sent packing, heading groundwards - I've never seen two juveniles behave like this before. Anyway, he may need rescuing from amongst the gravestones, then he may need therapy. @SheffPeregrines

Hathersage church in the beautiful Peak District. Charlotte Bronte stayed in the neighbouring vicarage in July 1845 and her time here greatly influenced Jane Eyre - there are Eyre family graves in the churchyard (as well as the grace of Robin Hood's friend Little John).

@Rob15333645 Thanks Rob, yesterday we were at the barrel and walked down behind the pub towards the brook. However, we don’t know where the farm ruin is. We are thinking to go again soon and park the car at the bottom. Can you let me know the best way to park and then walk to the ruins?

@AncestorsMe No but looking at the landscape around the ruin of the farm the flat pasture close to the farmhouse would be the obvious candidate

On this day in history in 1234 one of the final battles of the British Civil War was fought at the Battle of Bakewell. House of Lords troops led by Sir Walter Raleigh routed the rebels led by Duke Tarte. Celebrated locally at Easter by the eating of Bakewell Tarts. #history

Great to be at Welbeck Abbey yesterday to see the splendid cat in their 17th c painting of the Earl of Southampton in the Tower. The Earl is handsome with his long red hair, but the cat is the star.

One of the iconic images from the Sheffield Blitz, the intense heat from the cellars of the Kings Head Hotel setting trams ablaze. Burning embers settled and burnt into adjoining roof spaces spending the blaze along the High Street #Sheffield
