People keep pointing to places like Chinatowns, but let’s be honest, do Chinese communities behave the way many Nigerians abroad unfortunately do? This whole situation is deeply connected to values. The reaction we are seeing is often based on the repeated experiences people have had with the majority they encounter. It’s simple: if someone allows you into their house, you cannot continue to disrespect the house and expect peace to remain. Respect for the host country, its people, and its systems is not optional, it is basic responsibility. I have been to South Africa myself, so I understand why many South Africans are reacting the way they are. These tensions didn’t appear overnight; they have been building for years. I even warned some of our brothers living there about the consequences of certain behaviors, but unfortunately they wouldn’t listen. One of our biggest problems is that we have become so used to abnormalities that when we encounter normal systems, where rules are respected and enforced, it suddenly feels strange to us. If we truly care about the image of Nigeria and the future of Nigerians abroad, then we must begin to rebuild our values. Respect the systems you enter, respect the people who host you, and represent your country with dignity. Because when a few act wrongly, the reputation of millions is affected. And that is the painful reality we must face.

Look at the world… you’ll find Chinatowns in almost every country, with Chinese cultural leaders, festivals, even community structures, but you don’t see chaos or people burning things over it. You’ve got Indian communities across the globe celebrating their traditions, crowning cultural figures, hosting festivals… no one is panicking saying "they’re taking over." Even Europeans move everywhere British, French, Spanish communities exist worldwide and nobody is fighting because someone represents their culture abroad. So why is it different with us? If Nigerians crown a king in East London, it doesn’t suddenly make him king of South Africa… it’s clearly a cultural/community thing. Why are we so quick to fight, destroy, and divide? Africans, kanti yini ngani… what are we really angry at? Why do we hate each other like this?

My dad’s cleaner’s son. Their father was crûshed by a trailer while working as an okada rider, leaving behind his wife and four children. After his dèath, the woman and her sons began to hustle seriously just to survive. Unfortunately, one of the sons was battling sickle cell, so most of their earnings went into treating him. Sadly, he later pàssed away. Immediately the first son completed SS3, my dad enrolled him in a mechanic workshop specialising in (Mercedes-Benz repairs). Along the way, he also learned trailer repairs and ventured into spare parts. Eight years later, he now owns large spare parts shops in Onitsha and Ekpoma, and he is currently sponsoring his two younger siblings through their degrees in Portugal. When my dad celebrated his 75th birthday, he gifted him ₦5 million. The mother who once worked as a cleaner for different families now has her own cleaner and other house helps.

@SizweLo That’s what the government wants just to punish the south east and Niger Delta where the country’s crude oil is. You know why? It gives the elites and government the privilege to steal and sell our crude oil illegally.
