Rewatched PAIN+GLORY which has only grown in my estimation...Almodóvar's heightened sensibility is v affecting in the current context. I particularly love how he structures the narrative so its emotive high point is the kid fainting at seeing a naked man. And the ending! It's gr8

I miss going to Cinema Nova and watching a middling American indie but we'd all laugh when a character mentions Zizek :(

I just saw an actual, physical banknote and it was the strangest thing. It would have been months since I last saw one.

John Lithgow! The man can communicate so much through modulating his vocal tones (watching Perry Mason)

Gut-wrenching story on @RNBreakfast of critical medical care denied to a 14-yr old NSW double-lung transplantee by Qld health. The heartless policing of state borders in the name of health can be a direct threat to vulnerable peoples’ health. What’s happened to this country?

The good news is that, because none of this was inevitable, it doesn't have to be like this. We were not fated to have a Congress full of Matt Gaetzes and Laura Loomers (to say nothing of the White House). It's not a natural byproduct of free speech. This could all go away.

Every once in a while they ban someone, but it's too little too late. the basic structural problems are still with us. Just as our industrial economy has driven us into a climate crisis, the social-media economy is helping to drive an informational and political crisis.

The people who stand to benefit from our new attentional economy -- conspiracy entrepreneurs like Loomer, and tech entrepreneurs like Mark Zuckerberg -- talk about all this in terms of such lofty abstractions as "free speech," but none of this was inevitable. It was a choice.

Watching Beau Travai (1999) and this was playing in the background of the opening scene. Holly Valance remade a Turkish song confirming my long-held belief that Australia has no culture. youtube.com/watch?v=cpp69g…

And this is where it ramos up into bad class analysis. Your man here thinks more students should be studying the classics than Sociology and that the class system entrenched this. Sir, students are constantly told that the classics are "useless" and to study STEM.
