I’ve seen quite a lot of concern from Eagles fans regarding the team’s plan at safety.
While I understand being upset about passing on a player like Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, there are still a few safeties worth watching on Day 3:
- Jalon Kilgore
- Kamari Ramsey
- Zakee Wheatley
- Michael Taaffe
- Bishop Fitzgerald
But let’s not forget about the free agent market and especially potential trades at the position.

In 2022, many were worried about the team’s safety situation and Howie Roseman traded for C.J. Gardner-Johnson on August 30th.

@ChuxMaranan If bell and stowers were higher on their board then a safety I have no issue with it. Also, need to remember that the off season isn’t over after the draft. I do think it makes sense to place a vet type safety next to makuba. Just like greenard was important to edge room imo.

Ok, I hear ya, and it’s a fair point. But the Eagles also let Blankenship go in FA, meaning our one starting safety is Marcus Epps, who is an adequate starter but not someone any defense should be confident in. Ideally he should be SAF3. That’s where the concern comes in. But I also understand that every defense is going to have some sort of “weak spot”, so I guess we’ll just have to hope that Epps being surrounded by awesome players will help.

Re: safety in the 2nd round — I understand the desire from some Eagles fans to want an answer for that position. I would have been surprised if the Eagles spent a 1st/2nd-round pick on a DB for the 4th time in 3 years. That would have meant 4 of their 6 picks during that period were in the secondary. I expected this draft to focus on OL/pass catcher/edge rusher early (and was pretty clear about that in my pre-draft coverage). So far, the Eagles drafted WR, TE, OT and traded 2 picks and paid $25M/year to an edge rusher.

I have yet to see one person say what Sirianni does. He can be a players coach (even if he screams in one’s face). He can’t call plays even when needed. He can’t help offensively or defensively when needed. And he has shown he can’t hire the right people. So what does he do?
