🧵 We are building out security infrastructure for NØNOS before the v0.8.4 release next week. We now have nine automated pentesting jobs that run on every single commit to main. Supply chain scanning against RUSTSEC found two unmaintained dependencies in our ZK stack, adler and derivative, both from the arkworks ecosystem. No active vulnerabilities but we're scheduling replacements anyway. The static analysis picked up 24 raw pointer operations which sounds scary until you realize we're writing a kernel and every single one is in the scheduler, APIC driver or VGA buffer code where you literally cannot avoid unsafe. All properly documented with safety invariants.

A quick update for @nonossystems Some users ran into hardware compatibility issues which is expected at this early alpha stage. We’ve been collecting feedback from people testing NØNOS and it’s been incredibly helpful. Thank you to everyone taking the time to try it and share detailed information, it really helps us move faster. To make testing easier while we work through hardware support, I’ve added a VirtualBox VM setup for NØNOS. You can find it here: { github.com/eKisNonos/Virt… } This should allow more people to boot and experiment with the system without running into hardware-specific problems. Meanwhile, great progress on the networking side. @senseix2118 has been pushing hard on the stack and DNS lookup is now working and curl no longer hangs. We’re currently debugging the remaining errors but reaching DNS successfully from the system is a big step forward. I’ve attached a screenshot showing the DNS lookup running inside NØNOS. Still early. Still rough around the edges but the pieces are starting to come together. NØNOS is the new Rome. ⚙️🦀 @rustlang

This week we’re opening the first NØNOS alpha and beginning public testing. It’s an important step for us. After building the system from the ground up, the focus now shifts to real-world validation including; testing across different machines, improving stability and refining the core components that make the stateless model work in practice. Alongside the release, we’ll share a clear roadmap for the alpha phase so everyone can follow what we’re improving and where the system is heading.
