Ontario bills have opened the door to for-profit investments in municipal water systems despite government promises to keep water public, according to a new legal opinion. zurl.co/T08em

JUST IN: The Justice Department is moving to vacate the seditious conspiracy convictions of Proud Boys leaders who led hundreds of allies to the Capitol on Jan. 6. They had previously had lengthy sentences commuted, but not pardoned, by Trump. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…

From Liberal Convention: Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families: "Are there any members of unions in the audience?" "woo" "One lone voice! You are our partners!" The Liberals and working class are very clearly divided. Embarrassing governance.

Bill 98 is proof that while, Doug Ford feels the heat over water privatization, he hasn’t given up on his plans. In this Bill, he and his Conservatives are creating more elaborate fronts so they can forge ahead with removing our water from local control and make their developer friends even wealthier. Read this Bill closely, and especially its Schedule 9: Doug Ford is de-democratizing Ontario. By dissolving regional government, he’s getting rid of local accountability and communities’ control of their water and other infrastructure. Ultimately, it’s about downloading the burden of water costs to municipal residents so developers can save money. Doug Ford is counting on his ability to muddy the waters around public ownership of water and wastewater, drag a bunch more regions into his schemes and create competition between upper- and lower-tier municipalities. No perfunctory nod to workers keeping their jobs will hide the fact that on this subject, like his changes to freedom of information, we can’t take him at his word. #onpoli
