@stevenpoole I don’t want to pile onto this fellow because I know lots of people who know and like him. But, Jesus. How does a professional writer say everything they have to say about a book (of all things) and come in UNDER? In 30 years, I have never not written over and had to cut.

i have reviewed well in excess of 1,000 books over the years, and it would simply never occur to me to use a giant plagiarism machine to fill out a draft that was a bit short: writing enough words is literally my only job
