In case you missed it – the Polkadot DAO voted to change the issuance parameters of the DOT token. Our v10.8.2 update reflects the new issuance parameters, so the staking APY you see in Nova Wallet now accurately accounts for the post-halving changes.

Back in September last year, the Polkadot DAO decided upon a bunch of changes to DOT’s tokenomics under referendum #1710. Annual DOT issuance will drop from approximately 120 million DOT to 55 million DOT per year – a reduction of roughly 53%! After this, every two years, issuance will decrease by a further 13.14% of the remaining supply to be minted, gradually approaching the hard cap of 2.1 billion DOT. This is all part of Polkadot’s transition away from open-ended inflation towards a more predictable & capped monetary policy. As per the information presented in the referendum, the hard cap will not be reached until the year 2160. The practical effect for those nominating (staking DOT) is that staking APY will decrease as a result of lower issuance. It should be noted that while the APY percentage is decreasing, your proportional share of the rewards pool relative to other stakers isn't dramatically changing. And crucially, less DOT being issued every year.
