Seven Afghan asylum seekers have been charged with dozens of rape and child sex offences in a major grooming gang investigation involving two girls in their early-to-mid teens. The men, all Afghan nationals aged 20-23 face a total of around 40 serious charges including multiple counts of rape, human trafficking, conspiracy to commit child sexual abuse and perverting the course of justice. The alleged offences took place between August 2023 and May 2025. Five of the men entered the UK on small boats, one hidden in a lorry and another via Portsmouth ferry. Police carried out raids at six addresses in Norwich and one in Dumbarton, Scotland. All seven appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court today and were remanded in custody. An eighth man, aged 19, has been detained in Ireland with extradition now being sought.
