@lc1_summit @WhiteHouse Ahh yes - THIS graph. The one that conveniently leaves out that most of the jobs the Biden admin "added" to the economy were the jobs that went away entirely because of COVID lockdowns. Adjusted, they added about as many jobs as Trump has

@WhiteHouse If you have to caption the meme with the person's name to drive the joke home, it probably is not a very good meme, as a general rule lol

Its been particularly enjoyable for me to watch either Big Pharma or Big Alcohol pay seemingly millions of bots to post inflammatory shit about weed and some pseudo-scientific research that shows it causes brain damage. Its like we're back in 1960 all over again!

@TheStalwart Interesting, not to say you "dont know how to AI", but would be curious about how you're prompting Claude. I usually include actions like "look for" or "find me" to kind of signal it to do a web search. I generally always get source links this way in responses

Really noticed myself using ChatGPT more than Claude lately, in large part because it more frequently defaults to including external URLs, rather than just synthesizing ideas.

@FactorOrigin @APompliano He's sticking around as governor after his chair position ends lol Powell will very much still be involved with the Fed even with Warsh's appointment

@APompliano The right thing to do would be to leave it to the new chair. You don’t want a lame duck president with a week left in office starting wars and making consequential policy do you? Well then you don’t want a fed chair out the door messing wit a future he won’t be apart of.

The Federal Reserve has left interest rates unchanged. They should have cut interest rates. Just another mistake in a long line of mistakes throughout Jerome Powell's tenure as Chairman.

@WSJ @WSJopinion Wow, look at the WSJ editorial board eating up the right's talking points. First of all, half the reason teens get access to marijuana is because most states don't legally sell it - which mandates and ID check TWICE at the dispo. The anti-weed rhetoric is fucking pathetic lol

@APompliano @PfHamburguesa The government already redistributes wealth, it just does so to the highest total earners - like what, you think Pfizer doesn't have deals with the US government to ensure it remains at the top? Lol please get off your high horse

I keep seeing survey data about how much people hate AI. It may be counterintuitive, but this is a very positive sign for the AI industry. In order to understand why, you have to realize that a portion of the population has built a fake religion around opposing any form of progress. They hate capitalism. They hate free speech. They hate Amazon, Google, Facebook, and the litany of other companies that have drastically improved our lives. So when these people report hating AI, they are actually telling on themselves. They are implicitly admitting that AI is valuable and will create enormous economic prosperity in the world. Because AI will do this, it has to be opposed by the people who have tied their identify to anti-progress and anti-innovation. The wrong conclusion to take from these surveys would be “AI is going to run into too much opposition.” Instead, you should gain confidence that the free market is going to adopt the best technology. And that technology is very clearly artificial intelligence now.

@MerrynSW @TheStalwart Unless your card charges foreign transaction fees - then the fee the merchant charges might actually be lower

Question for a payments expert. What I pay for something by card in Spain, the reader offers me the choice to pay in euros or dollars. Obviously dollars are removed from my account. And the cafe gets euros. So what’s really going on in the transaction that requires this step?

@TheStalwart As far as I am aware (from when I traveled to Japan). The dollar offering is basically electing to have the bank that owns the ATM do the conversion for you vs. just a straight transaction. Basically unneeded if your card waives foreign transaction fees (as I understand)

@davidgokhshtein Talk about a bad idea lol my money is on Newsom most likely, even though I would HATE him as president. Id love it if Mayor Pete got the Dem nomination tbh, but I think that far lefties will think he's too middle of the road

@lopp @BradSanJuan @Cloudflare Yeah but like... the alternative is that every user has to keep a notebook of all their 2FA codes and passwords, which just moves the single point of failure to that instead. I think the answer is just use a self-hosted password manager. Keep it off the cloud

@BradSanJuan @Cloudflare Yes but it still creates a single point of failure; if the password manager is compromised for any reason such as via malware on the machine, game over.

@APompliano No, its a very bad metric for overall economic health. Doesn't account for like 3 or 4 major statistics. Sure the street trades on those statistics, but just looking at S&P and going "Wow look how healthy!" is how bubbles form

Marijuana today is much more potent than just ten or twenty years ago, leading to increased psychosis, anti-social behavior, and fatal car crashes. Arkansans don’t want more dangerous drugs obtained more easily. A change to marijuana’s drug classification is a step in the wrong direction.
