It requires knowledge, wisdom & focus. But isn’t rocket science. No more “household budget” or “national credit card” nonsense. We can do far, far better. We need people like you to do your homework & explain the realities, not the fairy tales - well meant, or otherwise. /8. End

If the economy’s running below full capacity, the govt both can & must - if it cares about the prosperity of the population- create & spend into the economy more £ than it taxes out. Deficit spend, in other words. To the appropriate level for the prevailing circumstances. /7.

Europe can and should do much more, and better, on defence. If it doesn’t, NATO or no NATO, transatlantic and wider security will erode or fail. But: if NATO is dead, so are we, even if - with much good fortune, which we’re unlikely to have - we don’t notice for some time. /14.
