I'm still a little in shock. Today my doctoral thesis was passed with no corrections. Huge shoutout to my anonymous examiners for their extensive, insightful, and incredibly kind comments and criticisms. I'm so relieved and couldn't be happier.

@Paging_Dr_Paige I think AGLC r 7.16 implies that gifs can (and should) be cited in journal articles

Wonderful to see the @UNSWLawJournal special issue on "Big Technology & Law" in print. The issue includes my article analysing the threats posed by political deepfakes and the private/public law remedies available to politicians in Australia

What sources do policymakers rely on when making decisions? @AndrewRay_1, Arabella Young and @willozap analysed citations in Australian federal parliamentary committee reports to better understand the role that academic sources play in shaping policy onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

The rise of virtual mooting certainly makes coaching from lockdown easier! @TheDSingularity joined me to Judge a practice moot for the @ANU_Law Commercial Law Moot Team who compete against Sydney on Monday!

@TheDSingularity @ANU_Law Congratulations to the team and thank you to @HSFlegal, @ANU_Law and @sgSMU for running the international competition. Special thanks to @pipryan for her work over the 2020 and 2021 rounds. Thanks also to all our practice moot judges (drawn from ANU, Sydney and UNSW alumni).

@TheDSingularity He could only pardon them for federal offences, I think most of those charged have faced either state or state + federal charges. That said the federal charge carries a possible 10 yr penalty so a pardon would not be out of the question ...

@drmartinemarich How to make the most of tutorial discussion — factoring in zoom breakout rooms (which seem? to be favoured in the online environment)

@johnjeroo @oz_f A very different set of circumstances. Access to an art gallery is extremely different to being locked in a housing block with no notice and in many cases limited/no suitable food. One raises human rights concerns, the other is a minor inconvenience for a week

@oz_f So it's now ok by you to apply containment rules to Northern Beaches residents as they are 'rich' but when it's a housing commission unit block it's discrimination.

@TheDSingularity You mean volunteer right, the journals themselves rely on unpaid academics and students to review and edit articles. The push towards 'publish or perish' requires ever increasing work to be done by unpaid students or academics who receive little recognition for their work

@ProfTimStephens @ProfTimStephens grounding planes reducing emissions = on track for targets? More seriously, we need to wind back the clock to a proper ETS policy that provides clear market incentives to invest in renewable power. Pumped hydro storage should also be on the agenda

@willozap @willozap Capitalism? The profits are being returned to shareholders and exec? Plus I imagine they're having to invest in more back-end hosting + security to handle the increased number of users? That said the breakout room issue seems like a simple/needed fix

How is it that Zoom, despite meteoritic growth over the last few months, still looks and works largely the same as it did at the beginning of the pandemic?

Thank you to the @abcnews and esp @mjrowland68 for telling viewers that almost everything @realDonaldTrump just said was an inflammatory lie aimed at undermining the democratic process. Are US networks doing the same? It’s their duty.

@TheDSingularity All depends on how out on a limb they want to go with projections - either way shaping up to be a long protracted battle ... definitely not what the polls (poles if you're Trump) were suggesting
