@Ryanrz You can appreciate the technical aspects of a piece of hardware while also understanding its limited use cases.
At this price, for what it is, it’s going after an extremely niche market. Props to Snap for pushing this space forward, but it’s also okay to dunk on it a bit

It’s super depressing to see people in tech dunking on this.
Is it perfect? No. But it’s hard as hell to build this and it is definitely moving us closer to where we want to be.
Anyone who has ever shipped hardware has respect for this. Fuck the haters.

I built a manga reader for the new @Meta Display glasses so I can read *literally anywhere*
I originally made it because I was curious whether manga would be readable at all on such a tiny display.
It’s obviously not replacing a phone or tablet, but it’s been surprisingly usable for quick reading, especially when I’m doing something where I don’t want to keep looking down at my phone.
Since building it, I’ve found myself reading in little pockets of time that I normally wouldn’t. A few pages while walking around the house, waiting for something, or doing other light tasks. It’s a small change, but it’s genuinely shifted how often I read.
Turned out pretty good imo.

I built a focus tracker for my glasses so I'm locked in 100% of the time.
Most attention apps out there are either generic pomodoro timers or tied to your computer.
RIP my ADHD brain when I'm trying to focus during reading, cleaning, cooking, etc.
I built Focus Lens to fix that 🥸
It runs a focus session on the @Meta Ray Ban Displays (using the IMU data stream) and gives you a quiet cue when your focus starts drifting.
Honestly, running this type of app on the glasses has been huge. They make it feel more tied to the actual task instead of the device you happen to be using.

Yooo wait a minute this is a super cool idea for AR glasses!
But it should go much further: instead of just a minimap, actually render the ghost in 3D in front of you like in Mario Kart.
And then... actually put some item boxes in the air that you need to jump to collect. And you can shoot your ghost with a green shell. And you can put banana peels for your ghost.
This may be what it takes to get me into running. Maybe a new side project, if nobody is doing this yet?

Pick up coins when you keep pace, sprint zones reward extra points if you push, and a mini leaderboard on the lens shows how you're tracking against your past self in real time. Best part: it actually works. Seeing your ghost 20 m ahead is a way stronger nudge than any number on a watch. 😅
