I’m certain I bought Tony Hollis at a similar time as staff sergeant, sure I paid around 2k for him Can’t even remember the angle for this lad, maybe why he didn’t improve like I thought he would, had him for 4 runs placed 3rd twice

Second horse I purchased privately for £1500, Dansili dutch, had to run her in a couple of sellers to finish close up to get her mark up knew if we could get her in the bottom of a bottom end handicap she would win, landed a a good blow twice in 9 days

@Golfpunter1 I stopped at the end of 2019 and I felt exactly the same then, hate to think what it’s like now, we used to head to the big meetings to get money on, that got harder so used to spend a Monday to Saturday in London getting cash on, using online accounts, in the end all doors shut

It is tough to explain how much the joy and excitement has been sucked out of placing a bet/betting. The account restrictions, the being treated like a criminal for placing a bet, the issues being paid, id checks, the ludicrous t&cs, affordability checks, lack of competent and fair regulators, etc. The joys of having to explain to operators what you are doing and why. Madness. When you throw in these latest nuggets during “safer” gambling week it really makes you shake your head in disbelief. ‘Whilst we’re not here to tell you what to do, please remember that gambling is never a means to make money’ A subsequent response to a thread; ‘The point is not that people can’t make money. They often do. We are, in fact, very accommodating to those people. It’s that betting is not a “means” to make money - ie not sustainable source of income. Nor should it be encouraged as such.’ How has the industry been allowed to get to this stage? Can you imagine this situation in the “City” and the financial markets? I know the industry has pushed the ‘entertainment’ narrative incredibly hard in recent years. That’s really been as a justification for the practices that they undertaken and the products they have decided to offer. It’s interesting to see the industry being quite so brazen as this on this subject. At what point are they even allowed to call themselves bookmakers? Previous generations would be turning in their graves at what the industry has become. The industry is doing a spectacular job of killing any aspirations people may have had of making money. The dream this industry was built on. Kill that aspiration and the industry is no better than a glorified lottery product. With the popularity of bet builders (and subsequent margins) it is headed that way anyway. Maybe that’s what the companies want as the huge profits continue to pour in. This sort of story should be prominent in media circles. Clearly it isn’t because those media outlets have their hands in the trough themselves. They have profited incredibly handsomely over the years from losing punters. The last thing they want to do is highlight what the betting industry has become. Same with the higher profile social media accounts. Betting has always been about both parties undertaking risk. It has become so skewed though in favour of the bookmaker that something needs to drastically change. It needs strong regulation in favour of the punter for once and we know that isn’t forthcoming. In its current guise and the trajectory it is headed on, from a punters perspective, the sooner the whole industry implodes the better. It is what it deserves. Fairness is not an unreasonable expectation. It should not be some nice to have. It is a basic requirement. It is the very least the customer deserves. Fairness is nowhere to be seen in this current iteration of sports betting.

@AndyGargan It’s more just a case of mentally getting used to accepting shorter prices. The market is so efficient these days and any arbs get arbed out very quickly.
