They claimed traffic congestion was caused by trains, street cars, wide sidewalks, urban neighborhoods... So we destroyed all those things to "solve traffic", yet traffic is worse than ever. Now they're blaming bike lanes? It has always just been cars - cars cause congestion.

You mean mass redundancies, the evisceration of entire disciplines, rampant managerialism, and the fanatic embrace of a profit-driven model of scholarship haven't fostered a climate of open inquiry and big ideas? Who could've known?! 🤷‍♂️ theguardian.com/australia-news…

Watching this intersection has confirmed to me that flush mountable corner aprons are worthless. Didn't see a single car going around it, most seemed to think they should cut to the inside of it.

Lex Marinos was a legend of ‘Kingswood Country’, a culturally significant series that captured Australia’s relationship with immigration in the 80’s perfectly. Known in the show as a ‘wog’, Lex was also a part of the ‘wogball’ family with legendary Greek-Australian football club, Sydney Olympic. In football, we’re immensely proud of our contribution to multiculturalism, a vital home for our growing cultural diversity long before it became a loved part of Australian life. Lex was an important part of that process. He passed away in recent days. Rest well. (Worryingly, this scene sounds like many politicians today, 40 years later.)

👀👀 "We find that universities are an established yet under-researched vehicle of climate obstruction by the fossil fuel industry, and that universities' lack of transparency about their partnerships with this industry poses a challenge to empirical research."
