@myrnamelgar If you want to attract families you need: 1. Excellent public schools & a less complex process for enrolling. Families need predictability & certainty. 2. Safe, clean streets. 3. Safe, clean, reliable, efficient public transportation 4. Places to live - please build housing.

1/6 Here are some of the criminal defense attorneys that have donated to keep @chesaboudin in office. Many have pending cases with the SFDA.

@WeberWest @JuliePitta Why not just have @annatonger interview him? Please ask: what is the TYPICAL punishment for fentanyl dealing in SF? felonies? # days in jail? Does this change after multiple arrests? We are adults, we can handle the truth, but it won't be volunteered if the ? are not asked

The SF Standard should give Francisco Ugarte an opportunity to respond. But will it? @WeberWest

@TheUnsaid11 @petercalloway @sfstandard I would like to know this as well: What is the typical outcome for someone charged with selling fentanyl in SF? Does it change based on how many times they've been arrested? If so, to what? We are the "People" the DA represents. We deserve to know.

@petercalloway @sfstandard What percentage of drug dealers charged in SF actually serve "a lot of time in jail"? Illegally selling product that has exploited addicts & killed hundreds, even teens, should come with serious consequences, including deportation, rather than an entitlement to avoid it.

Thread. Today in misadventures in journalism: The @sfstandard published a rock-bottom piece that makes an implicit argument for failed Drug War policies, and for the recall of SF's progressive DA. twitter.com/sfstandard/sta…
The San Francisco Standard@sfstandard

EXCLUSIVE: DA @ChesaBoudin’s office did not secure a single conviction for dealing fentanyl in 2021. The reason? Many drug dealers in SF are undocumented immigrants & Boudin's office prefers a different conviction that offers a path to avoid deportation. sfstandard.com/criminal-justi…

@FcoSFPubDef Actually Penal Code Section Sec. 32 can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony. What are the fentanyl dealers in SF pleaing to? What is their average sentence? This is useful to knowing whether or not they are getting "a slap on the wrist"

The crisis at Everett Middle School has not been an easy story to cover. The SFUSD pushed back against our coverage - despite knowing about the crisis for months, despite a desperate letter from Everett staff sent long before our story. missionlocal.org/support-our-pu…

who's got some good hot takes on the Matt Dorsey D6 supervisor appointment? (besides @EskSF, because, of course he's got thoughts, and they're always good)

@EamonWhalen @petercalloway My middle schooler is afraid to walk one block to the library from Muni. Anyone who lives in San Francisco knows that this true for probably every kid here This is the reality--not some "perception" and it's fucked up its being normalized

I spoke with San Francisco Deputy Public Defender @petercalloway about the perception vs. the reality of crime in the city at a time when district attorney Chesa Boudin has been made a boogeyman for his attempts at criminal justice reform. motherjones.com/crime-justice/…

@DeanPreston So basically nothing gets built, so housing is extremely scarce, but also extremely under market. The obvious questions: who chooses who is allowed to live in San Francisco? What is the criteria? Address that first: lets see if the conversation is "productive and unifying"

@peteskomoroch @sfchronicle @minilek @Stanford Hi Pete, Feel free to email about the story. I stand by it. We are hearing it from both sides, which typically means we did something right. Often folks don't see the big picture from where they sit. My job is to ask questions and not assume anything or take any side.

I think the @sfchronicle gets things right more often than they get them wrong, so I was extremely disappointed to see @jilltucker misrepresent Jo Boaler’s threatening email to Berkeley Professor @minilek. This gives Boaler PR cover to continue abusing her @Stanford position.

This claim of a 40% drop in Algebra 1 failure rate has been made for years by SFUSD, but seems to have escaped a basic sanity check. For any SF parent who had an 8th grader in SFUSD during the 2013-2014 school year, did nearly half of their classmates fail math that year?
