The Anglican Communion Office invites prayer for all those participating in an ecumenical vigil in Rome today. Following the recent statement from four General Secretaries of Christian world communions to ‘continue to pray for the victims of war, to advocate for justice before political leaders, and to serve those affected by conflict through our diaconal ministries,’ the Anglican Centre in Rome is joining together with the Methodist Ecumenical Office Rome, the Reformed Churches Ecumenical Office in Rome, and the Taize Community to hold a prayer vigil for peace in troubled times. The ecumenical vigil will be held at the Church of Santa Lucia of Gonfalone in Rome at local time. An exerpt reads: 'Let us pray for the protection of the innocent, including mothers, children, and the elderly of all faiths. We seek divine wisdom for leaders in the United States, Iran, and Israel. Today the Church remembers Joseph of Nazareth, the one entrusted with the care of Mary and the child Jesus. The Gospels tell us little about Joseph’s words, but much about his actions. Faced with uncertainty and fear, Joseph chooses compassion, obedience and trust in God’s guidance. His faith is lived quietly, through care, protection and faithfulness to what God has asked of him. Bible reading: Matthew 1:19–20 ‘Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”’ Prayer Faithful God, you call us to trust you even when the way is unclear. Give us the courage of Joseph, to act with compassion, humility and obedience. Help us to listen for your guidance and to serve your purposes quietly and faithfully, placing our lives in your care. Amen. Artwork: Icon featuring Jesus, Joseph and Mary in the Nazareth Melkite Chuch, Galilee, Israel.

The Anglican Communion Office invites prayer for the Archbishop of Canterbury, as she sets off on an 87-mile pilgrimage today. Walking from St Paul's in London to Canterbury Cathedral in Kent, the pilgrimage is part of her spiritual preparation for her Installation service on 25 March. A short service was held at St Paul’s Cathedral, before Archbishop Sarah, with her husband Eamonn and other pilgrims, walked across the Thames and began their exciting journey. Speaking from the steps of St Paul's, Archbishop Sarah said: 'Thank you so much for coming to be here today... Do join with me in praying over the next five to six days as I walk to Canterbury.... Do pray for me and I will continue to pray for you, that together we journey with God and into God, but most importantly with each other.' Read more on Anglican News: bit.ly/4rEQwKy @ArchbishopSarah

'The Anglican Communion is a unique gift that God has given to us. The enormous diversity in the Communion is to be celebrated, and exploring how we can best work together is so worthwhile.’ At a celebratory event on 7 March 2026, the Revd Canon John L Peterson, former Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, was recently honoured for his living legacy of 50 years serving The Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion. The current Secretary General (the Rt Revd Anthony Poggo) attended a special dinner and presentation to honour the long and fruitful service of Canon John across his many roles and responsibilities. Today is the Fourth Sunday of Lent, a day when the Church reflects on God’s mercy and the joy of return. In the Gospel, Jesus tells a parable about a father who welcomes his lost son home with compassion and delight. It is a story about grace that does not depend on worthiness, and love that runs to meet us even before words of repentance are spoken. This Sunday reminds us that Lent is about returning to the God who longs to embrace and restore us. Bible reading: Luke 15:20–24 ‘But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion; he ran and put his arms around him and kissed him. Then the father said to his servants, “Quickly, bring out a robe, the best one, and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet... for this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” And they began to celebrate.’ Prayer Merciful God, you meet us with compassion when we turn towards you. Help us to trust your welcome and to receive the grace you freely give. Heal what is broken within us and restore us to new life, that we may rejoice in your love and share that mercy with others. Amen. Artwork: 'The Return of the Prodigal Son' (1773) by Pompeo Girolamo Batoni.
