Happy 100th birthday, Sir David Attenborough 🎉📷Sir #DavidAttenborough’s warning on freshwater could not be more relevant to rivers today. Healthy rivers need clean water, enough flow, and habitats where fish and wildlife can thrive. But pollution, over-abstraction and weak regulation are pushing many of them beyond recovery. Anglers see the damage first-hand. That is why we are campaigning for urgent action to protect our rivers, lakes and seas. #AnglersAgainstPollution #LoveFishingLoveNature youtube.com/watch?v=MwNI_0…

"Forever chemicals” are building up in waterways. The Government must turn off the tap. A new report warns that PFAS pollution poses long-term risks to wildlife and human health. These chemicals do not break down, once they are in the environment, they stay there. Anglers are already seeing the consequences. That is why the Angling Trust is calling for urgent action to control these toxic substances. Read the report and demand action to protect our waters: anglingtrust.net/2026/04/23/new… #AnglersAgainstPollution

A very important announcement from the @AnglingTrust regarding invasive killer shrimps and a call to action for anglers…
Angling Trust@AnglingTrust

Protect our waters – Stop invasive species spreading The carnivorous Black Sea shrimp poses a serious threat to Britain’s freshwater fish and could badly impact native fish species and disrupt the food chain they rely on. “If they break out, fishing is going to be severely impacted,” comments Mark Owen, Head of Fisheries at the Angling Trust. Read more in The Telegraph: telegraph.co.uk/gift/3f3b5fcdf… Shrimp can withstand being out of water for several days, so following the Check, Clean and Dry guidance will reduce transfers. You can help protect our rivers and lakes by making sure your fishing gear, boats and equipment are clean & dry before moving between waters. Learn more about invasive non‑native species: anglingtrust.net/invasive-non-n…

Killer shrimp are tiny but aggressive. They attack and kill native species including fish eggs. Help prevent the spread of these and other invasive species, remember to #CheckCleanDry your kit after you leave the water. nonnativespecies.org/checkcleandry

Alan Blair tells us that fish care is more than just about unhooking and returning fish properly. Always check clean and dry your nets, mats, waders and other tackle between sessions. Don't be the culprit - CHECK, CLEAN & DRY. #checkcleandry #anglingtrust   #inns #innsweek

Our weekly 'Fishing Therapy Session' with the adults was the warmest of the year so far. Plenty of fish up in the water sunbathing & cruising around but also plenty in the net for both teams. 'Team Dave' moving further ahead with a bigger weight. Great to see everyone & catch up.

A new parliamentary petition is calling for a national debate on the option of bringing water companies into public ownership. It’s an issue many anglers and members of the public feel strongly about after decades of failed privatisation of the water industry. As the Angling Trust has long campaigned, the water services industry clearly needs urgent reform, stronger regulation, and investment in infrastructure to protect rivers, fisheries, and the environment. If you believe the public should have the choice to return the water services industry to public ownership, add your name to the petition: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/7626… Read more: anglingtimes.co.uk/news/stories/p… #AnglersAgainstPollution

Tackling Minds
Tackling Minds@Tackling_Minds·
Tackling Minds on ITV News last night 🎥 Then this morning we were down at Rochdale and District Angling Society with BBC Radio Manchester, chatting about the work we do and speaking with the team on the bank. Chris was also on Roch Valley Radio discussing Tackling Minds and our involvement with Rochdale Recovery Communities. It’s been a busy couple of days, and we’ve got more media coming up over the next few days and weeks, which is great. It all helps us spread the message even further about the mental health and wellbeing benefits of fishing. Tight Lines for Healthy Minds #fishing #kingsawards #MBE #royalfamily

Protect pets, rivers and wildlife - urgent action needed A growing body of scientific evidence is showing that fipronil and imidacloprid, chemicals in common flea and tick treatments, are contaminating UK rivers and wildlife. Both were banned for agricultural use by 2018 but are still widely sold as spot-on and collar treatments, often used on a monthly and bought over the counter. Today, we’ve backed a letter to Government calling for: • A clear timeline for reviewing how these products are sold • Moving flea and tick treatments containing fipronil and imidacloprid to prescription-only We’re also urging wider reform to ensure these chemicals are properly monitored in waterways and their environmental impact fully assessed. Citizen science is being ignored again. The Angling Trust is proud to support the Making Citizen Data Count campaign. Anglers and volunteers are already delivering the evidence government needs. Our Water Quality Monitoring Network has over 800 trained volunteers who have tested over 12,000 samples from rivers across the country. That data is exposing pollution and informing action to protect our waters. But as the Government prepares its Water Reform Bill, citizen science is at risk of being left out of the system entirely. The White Paper that will shape the Bill runs to 50 pages. Citizen science is not mentioned once. That has to change. Please support the campaign. Share this message and write to your MP to make sure citizen science is recognised in the Water Reform Bill. £8.5 million to repair environmental harm sounds impressive. But it risks entrenching a dangerous precedent: pay to pollute. Much of this money comes from Enforcement Undertakings that allow polluters to fund projects instead of facing prosecution. What was meant to be the exception is increasingly becoming the norm. Meanwhile, pollution continues and ageing infrastructure keeps failing. Payments after the damage is done are no substitute for investment that stops pollution at source. Pollute now, pay later is not the solution. Fix the system. Enforce the law. Protect rivers. anglingtrust.net/2026/04/14/pay… #AnglersAgainstPollution

"£8.5 million of voluntary payments into environmental restoration projects can be seen as nothing other than paying to pollute. In the same year, total pay for water company bosses in England and Wales reached £15 million, while illegal sewage dumping continues. Fines and voluntary environmental restoration payments continue to be treated as costs of operation. Fish and other wildlife reliant on clean waterways will only benefit when the whole system is overhauled to build resilient water and sewage networks, rather than building pollution into the business model."
