The US hasn't been a free country my entire life or since the civil rights act. I think the greatest propaganda of all times is American politicians brainwashing Americans into thinking they are free. You can't even choose how you want to live, who you do business with, or who you hang out with. At any point the US Government can drop a 100k Somalis in your towns lap and tell you to deal with it. That isn't remotely being being free.

So your choice as a Marxist was either throw in the towel and admit defeat, or engage with the system and overthrow it from within rather than from without. That’s exactly what Gramsci’s war of position or Dutschke’s Long March Through the Institutions was. Online RWers who smugly declare that “we aren’t voting our way out of this” are literally no different than old Leftists in the 60s who still believe the proletariat are going to gain class consciousness any day now and overthrow the state, all while mocking the Gramsci-Dutschke model of entryism and elite theory as “legitimizing a bourgeois system of oppression.” Ask yourself who won in the end. Was the world conquered by revolutionary Marxists or by subversive Marxists? These people will make beautiful polemical arguments. They will appear principled. They will come across as zealous. They will pride themselves on how unflinchingly dedicated they are to the cause. They will wear their moral superiority on their sleeves. And they will achieve nothing.

Nah, I normally think your takes are pretty spot on but you're misreading this one. The real, dark and uncomfortable truth is we genuinely aren't voting our way out of this. Both the Neocon/Libertarian right and the Commie left want the same thing, the fact that it's for different reasons and they employ different methods to meet this end is irrelevant for people like us. And before you bring up the new right/alt right and younger conservatives swinging the GoP's culture. No. Too little. Too late. We will literally end ourselves as a species in the time it would take for that shit to matter. They both want culture erased. They both want you and me replaced by 3rd worlders. They both have no real loyalty to nation, race or culture. And they both certainly don't give a single fuck about the long term consequences of their aims. The only two ideologies opposed to the erasure of culture and the mass importing of foreigners at the abject expense of the native populations were both soundly defeated in the past two world wars. We aren't voting anything remotely close to that into power no matter how hard we might desperately want to. The only way out of this is for an outsider, a true outsider not a Trump, to seize power for themselves and either restore a proper aristocracy OR a Fascist regime. Anything less than that is kicking the can further down the road and there isn't much road left for the can to go down. Now there are certainly ways to encourage such an outcome but politics and voting are not among them. Moreover from where I sit it's an inevitability, and one that those of us paying attention would be wise to prepare for. We're there. Things are that dire and the longer we ignore that reality the worse the titanic shift is going to be. Someone needs to take the reigns of the ship before we capsize and we are not going to find anyone with the leadership qualities capable of doing that through political theatre. Participate in GoP politics all you want. Vote and campaign all you want. It won't do any harm, but it won't do any good either. Me? I'm making sure the few loves ones I have in the world will be safe for when the inevitable happens and the system breaks.
