It was actually a young White Tailed Eagle - just met a couple of birders who got a really good photograph.

As I walked out one Hebridean Spring morning ... golden eagle overhead, meadow pipets singing away and the sand has been restored at The Singing Sands. #Islay

@FrdricJEAN14 True but Churchill was only one person and PM for only four of the post War years. The geration of leaders who had served in WWII (Wilson, Heath, Callaghan) thought differently about the UK's future.

@pioupsy Agreed. Suez was a defining moment. France correctly saw it as a betrayal by the Americans - in the UK it was interpreted as a failure to manage the "special relationship". Plus ça change ...

@AngusM1966 True but he had always seen the UK as an american asset, consequence of the Suez Crisis, where France then decided to have a full independent deterrence whereas the UK chose to get closer to the US ! Before the Suez Crisis the UK and France were so close…

@quatremer labour was in power 1964-70 - and the UK economy was entirely under the control of Washington due to enormous debts. PM Harold Wilson's Vietnam position was very significant. That generation of leaders understood the need for Europe to integrate having lived the horrors of WWII

On this day in 1987: An incredible night for Dundee Utd as they won 2-1 at Barcelona. The home team had Gary Lineker and Mark Hughes in their side but they failed to overturn their 0-1 deficit that they had going into this QF 2nd leg.

@FrdricJEAN14 He was wrong in failing to grasp that France's long term security necessitated Western European military integration in parallel with the political and economic integration already underway. By excluding the UK from the EC, he pushed France's natural ally into the arms of the US.

@AngusM1966 Il avait raison de ne pas prendre le RU dans l'europe,d'ailleurs elle l'à finalement quitté de son plein gré brexit.

@quatremer Bien sûr il avait tort. De Gaulle vetoed an application for EC membership from a Labour government that had resisted huge US pressure to deploy troops to Vietnam. He allowed personal anglophobia and the interests of 2 million paysans to distort his strategic thinking.

@AngusM1966 Il voyait le RU comme un sous-marin des USA. A l'époque il n'avait pas tort. Aujourd'hui, il accueillerait le RU bras ouvert sans doute

Usually love @ChampionsLeague knockout stages but bored stiff by tonight - it suffers in comparison with @SixNationsRugby finale at the weekend. And btw Doku is the reason @ManCity are not what they were. Recalls greedy ball hoggers who were the bane of my life at primary school!

Very satisfying long read on how Banksy has been able to sustain the mystery over his true identity, which Reuters has now established. I'm only revealing there are links to both Massive Attack and David Bowie. For the whole story ⬇️ reuters.com/investigates/s… via @SpecialReports

Watching #ClaudiaWinkleman debut in the Graham Norton slot, I find myself wonder why the BBC didn't think of offering her guest Jennifer Saunders the gig. Unlike Claudia, she has the Graham gift of being quick-witted and wry, which essential to stop chat shows being anodyne.

Outstanding food & service today @Lalique restaurant @DrinkGlenturret distillery in Crieff. White asparagus & black truffle followed by BBQ Wagyu short rib ⬇️ + Scrumptious desserts and wine pairing. Sad they're stopping their short menu, 3-course bar lunches - we'll miss them!
