1955: A young Romila Thapar chairing a talk by Bertrand Russell in London. Romila Thapar is an intellectual illumination and a brilliant historian that single-handedly pulverises the entire Hindutva ecosystem of pretenders and leaves them squirming.

I was today years old when I learned that my (deeply impoverished, you know) employer no longer has a research and travel fund academics can access to attend conferences/archives, & pretty much I am expected to pay for it myself. On our lavish salaries.

@kamlesm @EICatHome Indeed. That works both ways as the Mughals’ enemies were sword wielders too. To enlighten you, the Mughals had one of the most advanced armies of the time, not just swords. If you care to look behind the sensational bloodshed that is.

Rewriting school history textbooks is not new. States with ideological baggage have done it before. But 2 centuries of rich political, military, civilisational and economic history just vanishes? What are they going to fill the gap with? Imaginary rulers? thewire.in/education/indi…
