@chris_j_paxton Agreed. Humanoid public discourse has largely focused on form factor rather than how do we get the robot's internal dynamics/physics to actually behave more like a human's. That's where a lot of innovation still needs to happen.

The slowness here is partly because its hard to control a robot a precise manipulation task like this for a variety of reasons and partly because robots like this are fundamentally unsafe and inhuman; the actuation is capable of causing serious harm. Part of why its exciting to see people working on things like this from @AnimoRobotics -- fundamentally will be necessary in the long term for humanoids too

Its funny how even with the wonderfully dynamic unitree g1, these actions are slow. Perception-> action and the embodiment gap are the big things slowing down robotics. This is the part of the video where they start manipulating stuff

Robotics developers: if you're working on manipulation tasks that need compliance/force-control, we believe the right hardware can unlock what your algorithms are capable of. We're offering a few people early access to our arms in Feb/March before we launch in Q2 2026. Email partner@animorobotics.com if interested. 5/5

Robots need compliance! Today's commercial robotic arms are like sledgehammers: strong and immovable. They were optimized for factories, but as physical AI advances and we deploy robots for non-industrial tasks, like dishwashing or food prep, we need arms that are both strong AND gentle. That's what we make at Animo Robotics, a pre-seed stage company with an MIT founding team, backed by Amplify Partners. 1/5
