On May 13, Giving Day, support the Pharmacy Student Experiential Learning Fund There is a shortage of primary care providers in Alberta and across the country. However, pharmacists in Alberta have the largest scope of practice and can provide some primary care services and deliver an enhanced level of care to patients in their communities. Many pharmacists in rural and suburban areas offer medication management services and chronic disease management and screening. Pharmacy students participate in training throughout the province in community and hospital settings. However, our students report that while this training is invaluable, the cost of traveling and finding short-term accommodation in locations away from home can create a significant financial burden. Our mission is to foster high-quality experiential education by working with exemplary preceptors in diverse practice settings throughout the province in order to provide students with optimal learning opportunities and graduate pharmacists capable of meeting the needs of society today and into the future. In order to accomplish this, we need your help to expand our support for student experiential development and learning. Enhancing the experience and support for pharmacy students during rotations across Alberta will increase the likelihood of them returning to practice in rural communities after graduation, thereby improving access to primary care for Albertans in those areas. By supporting the Pharmacy Student Experiential Learning Fund, you can help students overcome the financial stresses of going on rotations across Alberta whether in rural, suburban, or urban communities.
