On Monday at the Royal Ballet & Opera in London, Anna Netrebko sang the titular role in Andrei Șerban’s 1984 production of Turandot. The audience applauded her interpretation ecstatically, the critics equally so.

Anna Netrebko’s recent Arena di Verona performances of Abigaille in Verdi’s Nabucco were recorded and will have its debut broadcast on prime time in Germany. ZDF and 3sat will simultaneously present the full opera at 8:15pm on Saturday 30 August, followed by catch-up streaming.

Anna Netrebko makes her debut in Bucharest on September 1, a country that has produced so many memorable singers. She celebrates the centennial of Puccini’s passing with a programme entirely devoted to his extraordinary operas, including the entire third act of La bohème.

After singing Tosca in Verona last Friday, the Financial Times wrote, “It is hard to imagine a more vivid account of Tosca today, the plum-voiced Netrebko drawing in listeners with a meld of dizzying infatuation, burning jealousy and coy supplication in the opening act.”
