@JB6018 @MrBoothY6 @TheBoyWonerd It’s the best book. I’ve taught it many times and it even engaged my own reluctant reader 10 year old son. I can’t praise it highly enough.
English

@MrBoothY6 @TheBoyWonerd I understand that but just wanting the name of the book cos I’m intrigued
Amd I have grandkids who may appreciate it
English

@RyonWLeyshon @jon_the_ropes Holes is amazing. The narrative structure is wonderful - my reluctant reader son (y5) is reading it to me; it’s the only book he’s asked to continue reading (except from some wimpy kid ones).
English

@jon_the_ropes I'm not surprised to see Holes here. I've not read it but seen it recommended many times. Is it suitable for 9-10 year olds?
And When the sky falls is definitely worthy of a place on this list 👏

@Saren_Gas @yonosayway @Talk_2_Em_Chris Yes! This. My ex husband (notice the ex) laughed at me sobbing while I tried to tell him about it. He’d find it funny to just mention Hachi and watch me bawl!
English

@yonosayway @Talk_2_Em_Chris I was only just giving my kid a breakdown about this movie and I started crying while driving
English

@yonosayway @Talk_2_Em_Chris I can’t even retell what happens in this film without sobbing. Like, snot inducing sobbing 😭

@bluebell_wood24 @babybeginner Are there any unions who don’t feel this way? I took a quick look earlier and it seems NASUWT take a similar stance. Don’t want to leave myself entirely without representation.
English

@babybeginner This is why I left NEU. However, knowing a lot of teachers who are members, I am left wondering how many members actually support their stance. I know the teachers in my school, largely women, celebrated the SC decision.

@MaryOToole10 @MrsNickyClark It’s not schooling, it’s parenting. Schools used to be able to reinforce the standards set at home. Unfortunately we often now have to battle the entitlement fostered at home. It’s hugely depressing and has got noticeably worse in the 20 years I’ve been teaching.
English

I grew up with similar, fear of what ppl would say in public. They rarely did but as a child alongside I felt it. Possibly it's much worse now because of social media. Also we now have lost the older values of politeness: kids from my local aspirational grammar school push and shove to get onto the train. So much needs to be restored in our schooling?

I took Emmy out Christmas shopping yesterday & we went to a cafe.
There were 4 teenage girls sitting at a table. When Emily walked past them they recoiled in horror and started laughing and making “oh my god” comments.
I don’t know if Emily noticed.
Maybe for her the abnormal cruelty from strangers that is so normalised now by social media, and off social media, that she just takes it in her stride.
But I noticed and I do wonder.
I wonder how so many with obviously less than perfect hearts and thought patterns themselves, rationalise their cruelty as legitimate whilst they focus on superficialities like body shape and facial perfection and ageing - particularly for women.
I wonder when did we stop telling our children not to point, make comments or laugh at people who are different to them?
Is it since their parents took to sitting on social media & doing so for hours?
Is that who we are now?
Emily may not fit a mould with her learning disability.
She may not feature as a priority for in deed it could be argued she’s a target for MP’s, legislators, bureaucrats, comedians or social media influencers; but Emily would never judge or hate anyone on the colour of their skin, sexuality, sex, disability or age.
Emily really does meet the world with open arms.
I wish more people did that.
Happy Christmas.

@UpTambourine Told my daughter the same when she was nearly 4. Didn’t plan on her going into nursery and telling them all - along with some swooping squatting actions apparently. Haha! She’s 13 now and I still remind her of the conversation her nan had to have on pick up 😆

Quick question - if I made a #sophiefromromania calendar to raise money for a Parkinson’s charity would you be interested?

@ruskin147 My doggo does this. Think it’s the canine version of a guilt trip!

@samanthafoxy My basshole ate half of this by leaping like a short legged gazelle and dragging it off the counter. Still love and own him. Even after the three days of red vom

This little shit emptied the bin whilst I went for a wee. I still own him because I'm not a prick #LilyAllen

@RetirementTales @simiisme I think there’s a lot to be learnt about being human - and that seems to be missing in society at the moment.
English

@RetirementTales @simiisme Not massively religious personally, but grew up with these songs and school prayer. I do wonder whether that made a difference to our understanding of the world and to our tolerance. Feeling sad and a bit desperate about the events of the past few days
