@JonathanShedler The problem I see is “as WE heal YOUR life together.” ICK. Condescending, inappropriate, demeaning—not high quality therapy. Only the client can heal themselves (if they need healing). Therapists are there to support (sometimes by challenging) client on their journey to cope/heal

@JonathanShedler Not a therapist. Have benefitted from having high quality therapy and have also suffered some low quality therapy. I don’t think saying “your therapist, coach, mentor” is the problem. That’s just trying to connect we people who may not be keen on therapy—it’s marketing 1/2

@DrZedZha I loose faith as soon as I realize they are not comfortable saying that and test all new providers by asking them to explain how something I know they’re unlikely to know works. One of the few times my esoteric biology knowledge remains helpful😉

I told a patient I didn’t know what they had. They teased me a about it. Then we had a good laugh. Do you lose faith in your doctor/healthcare provider if they genuinely admit “I don’t know”? Please comment if you feel comfortable.

@13Firecracker13 @guyfelicella With great respect for you and the care you have for your best friend, the role of safe consumption sites is to keep people alive and free of wounds and infections. Recovering from SUD requires self motivation, so if your loved one isnt ready, no recovery program will be enough❤️

@guyfelicella My best friend isn’t being helped by consumption sites, they don’t offer her anything remotely close to a path to recovery. What works for you doesn’t work for everyone.

Supervised consumption sites don’t “enable” drug use, they provide health care for people who are already using drugs. You shouldn’t have to be drug free to access health care! My last overdose was at booth 5 and I’m now over a decade sober. That wouldn’t be possible without harm reduction.

@GhanaboyPharmd Dead on! Wehave zero data on how many people with substance use disorder relapse after forced abstinence through imprisonment because those voices are not heard, people who were institutionalized for any reason are not cared for after release. Punishment does not = treatment

that the best evidence we have of the greatest mortality benefit is from voluntary treatment with evidence based treatment like methadone or buprenorphine, not forced rehab or jail which even recent articles have shown overdoses are up exponentially in both jails and prisons

Every time i read an article like this it goes something like this. They usually describe how themselves or a family member were forcibly placed in rehab or jail and they were able to recover, they cite an outdated study with major limitations and call it a day. The issue is
