They are arachnids but are neither spiders nor scorpions.
They can be found in caves, in dark and humid areas, in tropical rainforests.

Whip scorpions - the stuff of nightmares?
I have to admit it would probably be my nightmare if I was crawling into a dark cave.
But while they may look terrifying, they are truly fascinating. 💚
The whip scorpion can manoeuvre so well in the tightest of spaces almost shape shifting to fit narrow or wider crevices.
Its has an extended reach - up to 4x its height.
They prefer humid environments and hunt at night. The pedipalps provides pincer movement enabling them to capture and tear prey apart. They then pour digestive juices over the prey.
If frightened, some of the species will eject acetic acid from anal glands as a defence - (smells vinegary).
