Had a great afternoon at the Royal College of Psychiatry Awards ceremony. Enjoyable event accompanying the HPFT EROS team.

We now have the award for Team of the Year: Intellectual Disability. Up on stage to announce the nominees is Professor Alka Ahuja. #AndTheWinnerIs... Norfolk Forensic Community Learning Disability Service (NFC-LD) (@HPFT_NHS). The judges said “The Norfolk Team excelled in meeting the criteria for the award. The panellists were particularly impressed by the innovative pathway built on a strong, evidence-based model that has placed outcome and service evaluations at the heart of the service. The team demonstrated a clear commitment towards partnership working with all stakeholders and placed Service users, patients, families, and carers are at the very centre to shape the service.” #RCPsychAwards

@ShaunLintern Most professionals would welcome the MHA changes but don't believe it would make much difference. Consequence would be individuals with an LD still sat on inpatient wards for long periods of time but without the legal remedies and oversight of the MHA.

@ShaunLintern 50-70% of inpatients with an LD don't need hospital care. The problem doesn't usually sit with the hospital but lack of investment in social care and adequate housing. Hospital ends up being a place of safety due to placement breakdown rather than for treatment.

The failure to reform the Mental Health Act means one of the biggest scandals in British history goes on. We have 2k learning disabled & autistic people incarcerated in institutions providing little care, hat worsen behaviours with some vulnerable people being abused #KingsSpeech
