BREAKING:Veve launches new comic book reading mobile app AND new site to buy new releases ➡️ Newly published Marvel comics will be available on Veve the same day they’re released in print at comic shops ➡️ In contrast, Marvel Unlimited waits three months after print to publish new comics on their digital platform ➡️ Newly published comics available in 2 formats: $3.99 to read and own (open edition) and $6.98 in “Limited Edition Comic”. ➡️ New comics site: veve.me/comics ➡️ “Graphic Novels” format introduced ➡️ Veve comics will be readable in “offline” mode Veve just launched a new comic book reader app on iOS and Android devices. And it comes with some unprecedented features, such as being able to download your VeVe Comics for off-line reading. It also features a “graphic novels” category, which indicates Veve will soon begin to release comics in that format. Typically, graphic novels are different than traditional comics in the sense that they aren’t serialized and tell a complete story, rather than being an ongoing series. Some of the most popular graphic novels include Watchmen, The Killing Joke, and X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills. But by far the biggest feature is their “Same Day as Print” service, which will presumably allow you to purchase comics in digital format on the same day they are released at comic stores. Presently, part of the incentive for comic book readers to go to their local comic shop and purchase a new comic is that they could read their comics three months before it was made available in digital format on Marvel Unlimited. Kind of like how movies are first released in movie theaters before they go to streaming services or in physical format. But with this new avenue, readers will no longer need to get in their car and drive to their local comic shop to buy the latest release. They can simply purchase the comic from the comfort of their home and even trade them on the blockchain as they currently do with other VeVe Comics. They can buy new releases for $3.99 in open edition format (no supply limit), as well in Limited Edition Comic format for $6.98. Make no mistake about it, this is a fundamental shift in how comic books are purchased and collected. And it will undoubtedly accelerate the demise of the physical format, which is already on its way out with other mediums, such as physical movies and music, as evidenced by Best Buy recently announcing that they will no longer carry physical media. Just as there are still physical record and movie stores that support these niches, there will still remain physical comic book stores in the future — but will likely occupy a much smaller footprint in the hobby than it does today. But lucky for you and I, we are at the forefront of this revolution. Buckle up, because the fun has just begun! 💙
